Faux Silk Pair

Yes, Nerine, Faux Silk has become my new favourite! Faux Linen is a very close second, though.

I sent off over 50 cards to Alan today so I decided that I had better make some more. It is not too late to get cards to me - we have another week or so before the last package will go - so if you have a good stash or have time over Easter, just let me know.

These two cards were made with 2 of my favourite sets - Merci from SU Sale-A-Bration and Bud Basics from the Summer Mini. I wanted to use soft colours tonight - I must be in a mellow mood.

The colours I've used here are Barely Banana, Green Galore and Bashful Blue, with Whisper White.

The colours in this card are Mellow Moss, Regal Rose, So Saffron and Brocade Blue, with Whisper White. I was really happy with the way the butterfly turned out - it's the first time I have used the Aquapainter to blend two colours of the markers.

On a more personal note, life without Alan is going OK, just OK. Last weekend was difficult - I had to rearrange some commitments because I knew that I wasn't going to be able to cope. However, a very good friend turned up on my doorstep early afternoon with dinner for Charis and I and time to have a coffee and a chat. As her husband arrives home tomorrow, she understood how I felt. I was very grateful!

As it is now after 11pm I must go to bed. Have to get Charis up at 6am so she can be ready for the school bus.

Bye.

Joyful Birthday

This is a card that my daughter made for her friend's birthday. He is a boy and she spent a lot of time choosing "boy colours". I think it turned out pretty good for a 10 year old - or any age for that matter!

Note of Love

I guess I'm in a pink and plum phase at the moment! n I'm not sure about this card - particularly the background. The background is the Paisley stamped in perfect Plum with the Fauz Linen technique applied over it using Pretty in Pink. The centre stamp is from Merci and the words are from Lots of Thoughts. (All products come from SU).

What do you think? Is it too pink?

Bye

Plum Postale

I've had a lot of fun playing with the SU stamp set Carte Postale. This card was very simple. I chose to use the DS paper from SU Enchante for the background. The bird is stamped in Sage Shadow and then masked. The pattern was stamped over the bird in Perfect Plum. This will be one of the cards I am sending for the troops.

Bye for now!

Cards for OUR Troops

If you read the last post, you know that Alan is on deployment with the RAAF. The base he is at has about 180 Australian personnel. Reading the blogs of stampers in the US gave me an idea. My local craft has started making Mothers' Day cards to send over to the unit so everyone there can send a handmade card back home - if you know what I mean.

We already have over 40 cards but we need a lot more. In order to allow time for postage, there and back, I will be sending the cards on April 1st. If you would like to participate in this mission please leave a comment with your email address and I will contact you with all the details.

I'm really excited about this opportunity to give a little bit back to those who give us so much.

What's been happening this week?

I know it has been a week since I last posted. It has been a busy week. On Tuesday night Charis and I farewelled Alan (my husband) as he went on a six-month long deployment with th RAAF. He knows that I don't do well while he is away so he has rung me every night since he left - what a sweetie!

I haven't had much time for stamping until yesterday when I attended Nerine's Techniques Class. One of the techniques she taught us was "Faux Silk". This is a super-easy, very pretty effect. I had a play today (having borrowed Nerine's SU Artfully Asian stamp set for that purpose) and this is what I came up with.

The base of the card is Sage Shadow (my favourite green). I stamped the Cherry Blossom from the Artfully Asian set on to tissue paper, crumpled it up and then glued it onto a pice of Pretty in Pink cardstock. I then stamped the Cherry Blossom again onto watercolour paper and coloured with SU markers - Pretty in Pink and Sage Shadow. The ribbon is from SU's Flirty Ribbon Originals.

It is a very simple card but I really like it. Do you? Let me know.

I made this card last week for Nerine's challenge. The challenge was to make a birthday card for a boy under 10. The same day she posted the challenge, I found the instructions for this fold on SCS and knew exactly what I was going to do.

Thanks for looking.
